The third edition of the DIFF SHORTS Film Festival will take place October 16 through

18 at Angelika Film Center & Café Dallas in Mockingbird Station. With a goal of elevating short films and celebrating shorts filmmakers, DIFF SHORTS Film Festival 2026 will feature 16 themed film blocks with 100+ films, Q&As, industry panels, daily red carpets, and receptions for filmmakers and sponsors at The Highland Dallas, Host Hotel of the 2026 DIFF SHORTS Film Festival.

This years Shorts Blocks bring together an exciting mix of stories and styles something for every kind of movie lover. From heartfelt journeys through grief to fresh perspectives from high school filmmakers, from family-friendly adventures and coming-of-age tales to explorations of identity and relationships, the lineup is as varied as it is vibrant. Audiences can also look forward to late-night thrills, sports-themed stories, Latino voices, music videos, and everything in between.

Programmers Choice Awards will be given for Best Narrative Film, Best Texas Film, Best Music Video, Best College Student Film, Best Animated Film, Best Documentary Film and Best First-Time Filmmaker. Audience Awards will be given in those categories, as well as for Best High School Student Film.

The BooMont Hotel, which reopened in 2025 after being closed for nearly 100 years, is completing further renovations and will reopen on weekends starting Sept. 4.

The attraction, located at Galleria Dallas, has been upgraded with two brand-new rooms, more square footage, bigger thrills and different ways to explore the hotel.

Guests will enter The BooMont Hotel through the refurbished lobby, still decorated in the golds and greens that delighted guests in 1901. Elevators transport guests through the hotel, where older children and adults can expect the unexpected as they navigate through mysterious rooms, interactive spaces and imaginative photo opportunities.

The BooMont Hotel, BOO! for short, will be open on Level 3 of Galleria Dallas near Raising Canes from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays Sept. 4-27. Beginning Oct. 2, BOO! will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays through Nov. 1, with some extended hours the week of Halloween.

Memory Cafés provide welcoming spaces for people with dementia and their caregivers to build friendships, enjoy activities together, connect with others and discover helpful ideas and community resources. Hosted regularly in Dementia Friendly locations such as a senior center, restaurant, library, senior living or faith community, Cafés typically include light refreshments and an activity. They are not day programs or respite care.
